Powder coating is an excellent way to protect your Iron Gate, Fence or Iron Work. There are many colors and textures available. These powders can be used together with other protective finishes such as galvanizing or zinc based primers.
Powder coating is equivalent to a two coat wet paint and can produce a much smoother finish. The metal must first be clean and free of any grease, oil or debris. The application of the powder is similar to wet paint. The powder is sprayed with a gun and comes out like a fine powder. A small electrical current is charged to the metal being painted. This allows the powder to encompass the entire surface, even the smallest cracks. The painted surface is then placed into a large oven and heated to approximately 400 degrees for about 30 minutes. This process produces a rich and lasting finish. Upon installation any surfaces that have to be welded or cleaned up should be zinc primed and then painted with an equivalent color.
These finishes are not impervious to rust or fading but they are an excellent choice for their value.
